The study estimates that approximately 3 million people are misdiagnosed with TB annually. Of those seeking medical care for symptoms that could indicate a TB infection, around 1 million people have the disease but are not given the correct diagnosis. On the other hand, an estimated 2 million or more people each year are erroneously told they have TB when they actually have a different condition. These are false positives and false negatives, respectively.
These findings are concerning, as misdiagnosis can lead to inappropriate treatment, delayed diagnosis, and even death. It's crucial to understand the implications of these errors and take steps to improve TB diagnosis and patient care. And this is the part most people miss...
