Day 2 Highlights
Women's 50m Backstroke - FINAL
1. Katharine Berkoff (Missoula, Mont./Wolfpack Elite), 27.28
2. Regan Smith (Lakeville, Minn./Longhorn Aquatics), 27.52
3. Ingrid Wilm (CAN), 27.87
Berkoff, a standout performer, shared her thoughts on the race and training:
"I didn't know what to expect, but I feel really good in the water, so I was really happy with my 50 back. I've been working on bringing back my underwaters, as I've been focusing on long course backstroke for a while. I haven't done enough sprint freestyle in the past two years, so I'm glad to be incorporating those elements back into my training."
Men's 50m Backstroke - FINAL
1. Shaine Casas (McAllen, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics), 24.53
2. Henry Elmore Allan (AUS), 24.65
3. Hubert Kos (HUN), 24.74
Casas, a frustrated swimmer, discussed his race and the importance of sticking to the plan:
"The time was a little slow. I remember starting off last year a bit faster than that. I'm definitely a bit frustrated that I didn't go a little faster. Last year, I didn't have a 200-kilometer training base before this meet, so I have to keep that in perspective. As I said in my interview with NBC, stick with the plan because it can get frustrating at times if you're not swimming fast."
